There's something fishy about the COVID-19 inquiry announced by the Australian Government. It's not what it seems.
It was supposed to be a moment of truth, a chance for every Australian to finally get some answers.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promised a full inquiry into the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, what have we got instead? A sham inquiry, that's what!
The inquiry announced by the Prime Minister won't even consider actions taken by state and territory governments.
That's right, all those lockdowns, curfews, mask mandates, and vaccine passports... they're off the table.
Just think about it.
The very decisions that cost so many of us our jobs, our businesses, our freedoms; they're not "in scope" for this inquiry.
It's a slap in the face for every single one of us who had to endure a whole host of heavy-handed measures in the name of protecting us from a virus with a 99.972% survival rate.
Time is of the essence.
Labor's sham inquiry was announced in late September and already it's facing heavy criticism from all corners.
We need to add our voices to that chorus of criticism, and demand a real, thorough investigation before it's too late.
So, what are we asking for?
A Royal Commission; an independent, comprehensive investigation with the power to demand documents, compel witnesses, and examine every single decision made by our government during the pandemic.
We need transparency.
We need accountability.
We need to know if our livelihoods were tossed aside in favor of an overly cautious approach.
Did they trample on our freedoms, all for a false sense of security?
Some of us know the answers to these questions already, but if we don't get a Royal Commission, there may never be accountability, and justice.
If we manage to get the Prime Minster to jettison this sham inquiry in favour of a real inquiry, we could prevent a whitewashed report that commends the government for stripping away our liberties.
Instead, we could have a Royal Commission that scrutinises every action, every decision, and every consequence of the government's response to the pandemic.

This inquiry will not investigate key actions by state governments that infringed on our liberties. Furthermore, it has been reported that two appointed heads of this inquiry have previously supported oppressive pandemic measures. This is unacceptable.
We demand a thorough, Royal Commission inquiry into Australia's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This inquiry should be led by a commissioner approved by leaders of all political parties represented in the Australian Parliament so as to prevent any bias.
A Royal Commission inquiry will ensure transparent and accountable governance. It will conduct an extensive analysis of the economic and social impacts of lockdowns and restrictions.
It will safeguard our human rights, reviewing whether any actions taken during the pandemic were justified. Such an inquiry will also rebuild public trust and confidence in our institutions.
This Royal Commission should be independent. A judge who hasn't publicly supported pandemic measures should be appointed to head it. This will ensure an impartial inquiry.
The inquiry should provide a comprehensive review. It should scrutinise every aspect of the pandemic response, including healthcare, border control, and quarantine measures.
