Say NO to Religious Discrimination Against Christians
The Australian Law Reform Commission’s (ALRC) review of religious exemptions for educational institutions must also factor in the urgent need to protect the Christian faith in Australian schools, hospitals and businesses.
Australian Christian schools are critical to the education system with around 30% of primary and 40% of secondary school children attending a private, or independent, school. The Labor Government’s Australian Law Reform Commission review must ensure the right of Christian schools to preference people of their faith in the selection of staff.
The review of religious exemptions currently in place for educational institutions in the Federal anti-discrimination law must not be watered down or removed. Whilst protecting all students from discrimination is part of the terms of reference, it cannot be used to undermine the freedom of faith for schools and individuals.
This ALRC inquiry must be a genuine review in implementing the Albanese Government’s pre-election commitment to extending anti-discrimination protections to people of faith from discrimination and vilification to staff and students in Christian schools.
CitizenGO will be seeking to be included in any targeted consultation by the ALRC along with religious organisations, the education sector, unions, legal experts, and other civil society representatives so we ask for your support to petition the Hon Justice Stephen Rothman AM of the New South Wales Supreme Court who is the part-time Commissioner heading up the review.

Dear Commissioner Justice Rothman,
The new Albanese Labor government has committed to reforming Federal anti-discrimination laws to ensure legislation is in place to protect Christians and Christian schools.
Australian Christian schools are an integral part of the Australian education system which must be protected against ideological and religious discrimination.
We need to call on you to ensure that existing legislation protecting Christian schools in current Federal anti-discrimination law is not watered down or removed.
We insist that current employment practices in Christian schools must not be jeopardized or legislated against to appease woke ideology at the expense of taxpaying citizens.
We are asking for common sense to prevail rather than virtue signalling which seems to be prized at the expense of Christian schools.
