UPDATE - Aug. 11th, 2018

We are saddened to announce that Mayor Helps has done the deed. She took down the statue of our first prime minister - one of the fathers of Confederation. Canadian patriotism and pride have been unceremoniously dumped. It appears Ms. Helps is determined to start her own cultural revolution and political purge in 2018.

What will be next? Maybe she will discover some sordid detail from the life of Queen Victoria, and she will demand the renaming of her city. In this day and age, nothing is sacred - except for the "virtue signalling" of the left.

Ms. Lisa Helps, mayor of Victoria, B.C., has announced her plans to erase a vital part of our Canadian heritage. As early as Saturday, the long-standing statue of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister, will be removed from its place of honour at the entrance to Victoria's City Hall.

This is no less than an act of treason!

Sir John A. Macdonald fills a unique place in our nation's history. His vital role in the formation of our country and its democratic institutions is unquestionable.

Of course, like all of us, he was not a perfect man. We may disagree with some of his ideas - especially when it comes to his opinions on first nations. But that does not mean a local mayor and her city council can unilaterally condemn the man and expunge his name from our collective identity.

Please join me in expressing our outrage and telling the Victoria City Council to keep the statue of John A.

Do Not Remove the Statue of John A. Macdonald

Dear Mayor and City Council,

I am offended and angered that you have made plans to remove the statue of one of Canada's founding fathers - our first prime minister - Sir John A. Macdonald.

As far as I recall, there was no revolution to topple our government and its national institutions, all of which were influenced (at least in part) by him.

You have absolutely no right to condemn this national icon. He is an absolutely vital part of our Canadian culture, identity, and history.

He may have been an imperfect man (like all of us), but his role in our nation's formation is undeniable. It is worthy of respect and esteem, which is why your predecessors saw fit to place the statue there in the first place.

As elected officials, you are charged with upholding the values and institutions of our Canadian democracy, not tearing them down or casting judgement on them.

Therefore, I am calling on you stop your plans to remove the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald and leave this important part of our national heritage alone.
