Help the Russian Baptist church shut down by authorities!

The Russian Constitution and European Constitution both guarantee citizens the right to freedom of religion.  But local authorities in Russia apparently don’t care about this important right.  Instead, they have forced Vitaliy Bak, the leader of a small Baptist congregation in Russia, to stop holding worship services in his own home!

There is no greater religious liberty right than worshipping with one’s friends and family in one’s own home.  This attack on religious freedom cannot standSign this petition now to show that you care about the rights of Christians to worship freely around the world.

Because of local rules against religious minorities worshipping in established churches in his part of Russia, Vitaliy Bak opened up his home—where he and his family live—for a handful of fellow Baptists to come and worship together.  Despite Russian and European law protecting exactly this right, local law enforcement shut down Bak’s own home and has forbidden worship there.  Law enforcement argue that zoning laws don’t allow Bak to hold worship services in his home—but if that were true, then he would not be able to worship anywhere.  Bak has fought this decision in Russian courts, but so far, his rights have not been protected.

There is no more fundamental right than worshipping in one’s own home.  The Russian constitution recognizes this right, but Russian police and courts refuse to recognize it.  Bak’s only last resort is a case he has filed in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.  He is being assisted in this case by ADF International—a nonprofit organization fighting for religious liberty rights around the world.  Please join us at CitizenGo in expressing our support for Bak, and our allies at ADF!

The European Convention on Human Rights—protected by the European Court—include protections for religious freedom in Article 9 of the Convention. Please sign this petition to the European Court that it should enforce the Convention and require Russian authorities to cease their discriminatory attacks against Bak and this local Baptist congregation.

Please act on behalf of Vitaliy Bak!

Dear European Court of Human Rights,

A case is pending before you on behalf of Vitaliy Bak—a Russian homeowner who seeks to worship God in his own home with his friends and family.  Despite Russian and European law protecting his right to worship in this way (Convention Article 9), local Russian authorities have forbidden private worship in Bak’s home.  This is an unacceptable attack on religious liberty.  If a man cannot worship freely even in his own home, he cannot worship freely anywhere.  Please act quickly to give this man back his home to use in any way he wishes—including to exercise his religious freedom and worship his God.

Thank you for your consideration!

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
