When the new academic year begins in September 2020, many children will have missed over 6 months of education due to the closure of schools because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Now is the time to prioritise basic literacy and numeracy skills, as well as catch-up on any missed elements of the curriculum.   Yet at the same time as getting used to the ‘new normal’ and implementing an entirely new regime to avoid a second wave of Covid infection, under new regulations schools will be required by law to introduce compulsory Relationships and Sex Education lessons, including to children as young as 3.

This new law requires schools  to consult with parents to draw up policies regarding Relationships and Sex Education.  Because of lockdown, however, in many cases this has not happened.

The new Regulations have already provoked widespread controversy, with many parents expressing concern over the damaging and highly explicit sexual material included in proposed lesson plans and recommended resources, .

In particular, many parents have objected not only to the explicit sexual content, but also to the promotion of gender ideology and normalisation of same-sex relationships to their children, at an age when it is medically and psychologically established they lack the emotional and intellectual maturity to process such concepts.

In addition, many local education authorities are in turmoil having been forced to withdraw their ‘trans toolkits’ ,promoting gender fluidity to children, as well as plans to introduce mixed-set toilet and changing facilities.

Many parents are concerned by the infiltration by influential LGBT lobby groups and activists who are openly using education to promote a political and ideological agenda that ignores child protection and safeguarding.

This is not education but indoctrination. Several lobby groups have already taken advantage of the crisis in order to advertise that they have materials ready and waiting to be introduced in time for the new academic year. They have also attempted to persuade parents, currently schooling children at home, to download their resources.

It is vital that the implementation of these Regulations is postponed until such time as life has returned to normal, in order to allow for proper consultation and review, so that gender ideology and the sexualisation of children is not allowed to slip in to the classroom, unchallenged.

This is why we are calling on the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson, to press pause on RSE and postpone the implementation of these new regulations.

Petition to: The Secretary of State for Education - the Rt Hon Gavin Williamson CBE

Postpone implementation of the new RSE Regulations to allow proper consultation

In light of the current closure of schools under measures taken to tackle and reduce the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, the consultation required under law between schools and parents for the drawing up of policy for Relationships Education, and Relationships and Sex Education - that becomes compulsory by law from September this year - has been unable to take place.

The new Regulations have already provoked widespread controversy, with many parents expressing concern over the damaging and highly explicit sexual material children will be taught from age 3. In particular, many parents have objected to the normalisation of same sex relationships and gender fluidity and their promotion to their children, at an age when it is proven they lack the emotional and intellectual maturity to process such concepts. Parents say this is not education, but the deliberate promotion of an ideological and political agenda by LGBT campaigners and activists and, as such, is indoctrination.

It is vital that the implementation of these Regulations be postponed until such time as life has returned to normal, in order to allow time for proper consultation and review, and so that they are not allowed to slip through unchallenged.
