Uphold Parental Rights to withdraw children from RSE!

Please help support our challenge of the Department for Education on the new RSE curriculum.  We seek the reinstatement of the Parental Right to Withdraw their children from classes with sexual content. We have commenced a Judicial Review asking for Parental Withdrawal to be given for RSE, so parents can protect their children from sexual content which THE PARENT believes is inappropriate for their child.  We are vehemently against victimisation of any groups in society and our aim is to defend and promote parental rights to protect their children.

The Let Kids Be Kids Coalition (LKBKC) believes that parents are responsible for the upbringing of their own children and that Parliament has a legal duty to ensure that any education provision in sensitive ethical and moral fields is in conformity with the parents’ religious and philosophical convictions.

With effect from 1st September 2020 the Government has introduced compulsory Relationships Education(RE) for all primary school children, compulsory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) for all secondary school children, and compulsory Health Education (HE) for all primary and secondary school children.
  • The DfE is encouraging the teaching of Relationships Education and Health Education to include content that amounts to sex education. But parents  have no veto over the curriculum content, even when it conflicts with firmly-held moral and religious convictions, and parents have no right to withdraw their children from these new subjects.
  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is compulsory in all secondary schools (maintained schools, academies and independent schools). However, parents’ rights to withdraw their children from the sex education provided as part of RSE has been significantly limited: the final decision is up to the head teacher, and the right effectively ceases to apply three terms before the child turns 16.
  • LKBKC have already heard from many concerned parents about inappropriate material being introduced into schools which includes sexually explicit content and ideological beliefs about sex and gender.
The LKBKC is concerned that mandatory Relationships Education and Health Education in primary school will include content that is inappropriate for young children and that the fundamental principle of parental care and protection has been undermined. The Coalition is also concerned that the right of parents to remove their children from sex education is being severely limited.

We believe that the nature and scope of these new Regulations and Guidance undermine parental rights to direct the upbringing of their children according to their religious and philosophical beliefs and to protect their children from content that they consider inappropriate for their children’s age and stage.

Sign our petition demanding that parental rights are upheld.

Petition to: Boris Johnson

Petition to: The Prime Minister - the Rt Hon Boris Johnson

Uphold Parental Rights to Withdraw children from sex education. Uphold Parental Rights.  Stop the State intruding into Family Life. Stop Sexualising Our Children with RSE Education.

We believe that the nature and scope of the new RSE Regulations and Guidance undermine parental rights to direct the upbringing of their children according to their religious and philosophical beliefs, and undermine parental ability to protect their children from sexualised content that they consider inappropriate for their children’s age and stage.

We believe that the Regulations and Statutory Guidance are an unlawful interference with these important parental rights.

We are concerned that the Government is over-sexualising young children and ignoring their religious background.  The Government should respect the religious and philosophical beliefs of parents and not seek to divide parents and their children.

 We call on the Government:
  • To give parents/guardians the Right of Withdrawal of their children from all Sex education and Religious education that is contrary to their religious or philosophical beliefs.
  • To allow parents/guardians, who know their children best, to decide what is age appropriate Sex education (including Sexual Relationship education) at both primary and secondary school.
  • To provide appropriate educational provision for children to be protected from cyber abuse and cyber bullying for staying safe online, which was the initial reason RSE was brought in.
