Legislation in Illinois would remove “personhood status” from unborn babies!

A provision in Illinois HB 40 would remove provisions from a 1975 Illinois Abortion Law granting  “personhood status” to unborn children from the time of conception. Currently, under Illinois law unborn babies are considered persons –as they obviously are. If HB 40 passes, this language would be eliminated and unborn children in Illinois would “officially” lose personhood status!

Please join us in asking Senate President John J. Cullerton to oppose this provision of HB 40. It is shameful that we are even arguing over whether or not an unborn baby is a person. However, we must fight this battle and proclaim life and dignity for all people. This provision must remain. Please sign this petition now to Senate President John J. Cullerton.

Pro-life advocates have long argued that language matters. That’s why it is important for us to call unborn babies what they are –people made in the image of God with inherent dignity and worth. It’s important to verbally say that we are the “pro-life generation” and call abortion advocates what they are: pro-abortion, not pro-choice.

(As we have reported before, most abortion advocates are not “pro-choice” because the only choice they will accept is unfettered access to “terminate pregnancies.”)

As State Representative Sheri Jesiel has said, “I think we have the responsibility to recognize that even an unborn child is a human being. We have that responsibility as a culture. We have that responsibility as a state. By striking that from the language, we do not do that.”

In addition, according to Illinois Right for Life, HB 40 would require “each Illinoisan [to] pay for abortions through the full nine months of pregnancy for any reason, even when the unborn child can feel pain and survive outside the womb, for those on Medicaid, and for state employees.”

It is obvious that this legislation must be defeated! Our words have power. The state must recognize the personhood and dignity of all people, born and unborn. All unborn babies have human DNA distinct from their mother, and our living organisms. What else is a living human other than a person?!

Your words have power, as well. Please help protect the dignity of unborn babies in Illinois by signing this petition and joining with us in fighting against the pro-abortion culture.

Unborn babies are people!

Senate President John J. Cullerton,

A provision in Illinois HB 40 would remove provisions from a 1975 Illinois Abortion Law granting  “personhood status” to unborn children from the time of conception. Currently, under Illinois law unborn babies are considered persons –as they obviously are, given their distinct human DNA and undeniable, scientific status living beings. If HB 40 passes, this language would be eliminated and unborn children in Illinois would “officially” lose personhood.

Please oppose this provision of HB 40. It is shameful that we are even arguing over whether or not an unborn baby has personhood. Language matters. All people are made with inherent dignity and worth, whether born or unborn.

As State Representative Sheri Jesiel has said, “I think we have the responsibility to recognize that even an unborn child is a human being. We have that responsibility as a culture. We have that responsibility as a state. By striking that from the language, we do not do that.”

The state must recognize the personhood and dignity of all people. This legislation would vitiate that dignity and allow for distinctions between different types of persons. Please oppose that change and support the lives of all Illinois residents.

Thank you for your consideration.
