Stand with the Mayor of Henderson County, TN for refusing to remove Scripture from the courthouse!
Recently, the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter to the mayor of Henderson County, TN, Dan Hughes, demanding that he take down a Bible verse which has been engraved on the county courthouse for over 50 years. Mayor Hughes said no! The Freedom From Religion Foundation has promised to continue pressuring him and possibly bring legal action.
Please stand with Mayor Hughes and thank him for standing up for Christian values and the value of our Christian heritage! A Bible verse that has been engraved on the courthouse for half a century should remain there!
Christianity is at the core of our national identity and the further that we go away from that core, the more unstable our foundation becomes. Fortunately, Christians are still the majority in America. According to a recent Gallop poll, 75 percent of Americans self-identify as Christians. Although many people identifying as Christians may have little true commitment to Christ, the church in America remains a voting bloc to be reckoned with.
However, for some strange reason we allow tiny minorities, such as the anti-religion lobby, to push us around and “set” the rules. We should stand up and reclaim our voice. We must stand together and against forces of secularism that are attempting to wipe Christianity out of the public sphere.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation thinks they can intimidate Henderson County into removing Scripture from the courthouse. Let’s prove them wrong.
What is the Bible verse that the Freedom from Religion Foundation finds so offensive? “Judgment and justice are the habitation of thy throne: Mercy and truth shall go before thy face.” – Psalm 89:14
There is no reason why this verse should be removed from the courthouse. Judgment, justice, mercy, and truth are all important virtues for our judicial system to embody. Everyone in Henderson County agrees! Almost no one in the state of Tennessee for that matter is calling for the Bible verse to be removed. The Freedom from Religion Foundation isn’t even based in the South; it’s based in Madison, Wisconsin.
It is time that Christians stand up for our values. They are what built this nation, and they are essential for our country’s survival. A tiny atheist group in the Midwest should not be determining the décor of our courthouses.
Please stand with Mayor Hughes and thank him for protecting the county courthouse!
