Support Romania's Effort to Protect Marriage Between One Man and One Woman
Romania's Constitutional Court has declared valid a Citizens' Inititative which would definitively define marriage, in the Romanian Constitution, as between one man and one woman.
The Citizens' Initiative, which gained an overwhelming 3M+ voters' signatures (out of a total population of just 20M), proposes to alter Article 48.1 of the Romanian Constitution, which deals with foundation of a family and family life.
Currently, the Article says: "The family is founded on the freely consented marriage of the spouses, their full equality, as well as the right and duty of the parents to ensure the upbringing, education and instruction of their children."
The proposal will simply replace the word "spouses", with a specific reference to a man and a woman.
This is not complicated.
And, now that the Constitutional Court has unanimously ruled that the proposal is constitutionally valid, it will now go to the Romanian Parliament. Their job is to give official approval to the measure and prepare the way for referendum on the matter. However, the proposal must first be approved by a three-quarters majority vote in both Houses of Parliament (i.e., the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate).
It is, therefore, the intention of this petition to accomplish two goals:
1) To THANK the Romanian Constitutional Court for simply doing their job and not erecting obstacles to this Citizens' Initiative proposal; and,
2) To ENCOURAGE Romania's Parliamentarians, both MPs and Senators, to fulfill the obvious will of the people and pass a measure to ensure that a referendum will be held on this most important of matters.
Romanian people want to protect the natural family, and Parliament should acknowledge the wisdom of the people on this issue.
As this petition is meant to encourage, anyone can sign this petition no matter where they live.
Perhaps, if Romania can succeed in protecting marriage and the natural family, other countries in Europe will follow their lead.
Thank you for signing!
