Stop UN Imposition of Abortion Agenda on Ireland and Other Nations

In a move showing the utmost contempt and disrespect for the right of every nation to decide its own laws on abortion the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has recommended that abortion be decriminalised “in all circumstances” in Ireland and has recommended that Ireland “review its legislation with a view to ensuring children’s access to safe abortion…”

This means that abortion would be permitted, for girls, right up until the birth of their child.

These recommendations can be found in the Committee’s “Concluding Observations” of its review of Ireland’s compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The UN’s so-called “child rights” experts also issued their findings on a number of other countries as well, including, Kenya, Peru, The Maldives, Benin and Senegal, all of which were given the same recommendation: that abortion be decriminalised in all circumstances.

The UN’s shameless promotion of these extreme abortion policy proposals on the international stage are disgraceful. Not only is the Committee on the Rights of the Child completely ignoring its own human rights foundation, it is putting pressure on individual sovereign nations to reject their own pro-life legislation, in favour of the UN’s radical abortion ideology.

In short, the UN is trying to bully these nations into adopting its own pro-abortion stance by using its own status as a supposed champion of human rights. This is a terrible abuse of power and influence and one which must be resisted.

The Committee were investigating how well Ireland, and these other nation states, lived up to the standards set by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention itself states that – quoting from the Declaration on the Rights of the Child – “…the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.

It would seem that the Irish constitution, which explicitly acknowledges the right to life of the unborn is taking the both the Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child far more seriously than is the UN itself.

Sign this petition to Ireland’s Ambassador to the United Nations and the Ambasadors of the other countries mentioned in the UN’s overreaching report – Kenya, Peru, The Maldives, Benin and Senegal – asking them to resist this aggression from the UN, and do all they can to ensure their own nations are able to retain their sovereignty in regard to the life and welfare of its own citizens – including the unborn.

This petition will also be sent to the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki Moon, so as to inspire some accountability within the UN. But, the most important recipients of this petition are the Ambassadors to the UN of Ireland and the other small or developing nations of Kenya, Peru, The Maldives, Benin and Senegal.

When you sign this petition, you are standing up for small and developing countries, to have the right to decide, as sovereign nations, on sensitive issues like abortion without being bullied by the UN.

Thank you for signing!

UN Must Not Impose Its Abortion Agenda on Ireland and Other Small and Developing Nations

For the Attention of the following UN Politicians:

  • Mr Donoghue, Ambassador/Permanent Representative for Ireland to the UN,
  • The Ambassador/Permanent Representative for Kenya to the UN,
  • The Ambassador/Permanent Representative for Peru to the UN,
  • The Ambassador/Permanent Representative for Senegal to the UN,
  • The Ambassador/Permanent Representative for Benin to the UN,
  • The Ambassador/Permanent Representative for The Maldives to the UN,
  • AND, Mr Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary General,

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has recently produced a series of recommendations for Ireland as well as a number of other countries (including Kenya, Peru, The Maldives, Benin and Senegal) in regards to the right to life of the unborn child. Among its recommendations the Committee says that abortion should be completely decriminalised.

Whilst these are indeed “recommendations” and are, of course, not binding, they potentially represent the imposition of the will of “18 [unelected] international independent [so-called] experts” upon the entire electorate of Ireland as well as the other aforementioned countries. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child are abusing their authority and influence especially in a country which has one of the best maternal health care systems in the world. Without recourse to abortion, Ireland consistently has one of the lowest maternal mortality rates in the world.

Particularly in the case of Ireland, the Irish Constitution recognises the right to life of the unborn, who are properly counted as members of the human family.

And, it is not for an international committee to dictate to sovereign nations, that they should no longer include certain humans as having the right to life.

I ask you therefore, to do everything in your power to defend and uphold the pro-life laws of your countries - and of every country, from the attacks of people who may be unable to recognise the humanity of the unborn. I would also ask you to ensure that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child cease to promote their radical abortion agenda in these countries, and instead, promote policies which will really help girls in a crisis pregnancy.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
