Students for Life courageously protest for all women, born and unborn, at Saturday’s “Women’s March”
On Saturday, thousands of liberal women gathered in Washington, D.C. to protest President Trump and to celebrate abortion access. President of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards spoke about the importance of abortion, another speaker wore a shirt expressing love for abortion, and most of the vagina- and uterus-illustrating signs made clear: the “women’s march” was actually a march exclusively for women who approve of abortion. Indeed, before the event, march organizers told pro-life women to stay away! The event wasn’t about women, it was about promoting a certain lifestyle and access to abortion.
But Students for Life, a group of pro-life students, stood up to the forces of abortion trying to silence pro-life women and took a courageous stand for all women –born and unborn! Please join us in standing with them in solidarity! They attended the march with a message of life and love for all people. And they paid a price for supporting the human decency of both unborn babies and pregnant women. Join me in thanking them for standing against the intolerance and rejection of life in our nation’s capital!
A group of about 50 pro-life women carried signs reading “Abortion Betrays Women,” and they were harassed for their efforts. The Students for Life organizer, Kristina Hernandez, called the day “brutal” and said she “did not feel safe at all.” Pro-abortion marchers spat on the pro-life girls, tore up a pro-life sign, and yelled at them.
The march supposedly supporting women’s rights did not allow any pro-life women to co-sponsor, harassed pro-life women who attended, and ultimately rejected the idea that pre-born women should have human rights too!
Regional director of Students for Life, Michele Hendrickson, rejected this hypocrisy: “Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry do not own Women’s Rights.” She continued, “the idea that women are equal human beings is not new, it’s not owned by one group, and abortion advocates are the least consistent with this principle.”
We know that abortion ends at least one human life, and it may seriously damage the mother’s life, as well. As Christians and life-loving Americans, we must work constantly to change our culture—to both respect the value of the unborn, and to cultivate honor and support for pregnant mothers.
Life is precious, and it can often require sacrifice. We must work every day to convince our neighbors that that sacrifice is worth it. And we should stand up against bullies like Planned Parenthood that try to claim that all real women must support abortion. Wrong! Real women support the lives of all girls and boys in this country, whether in the womb or outside as infants, toddlers, or children.
The women representing Students for Life at the women’s march on Saturday showed us what it’s like to stand up to these bullies. Let’s thank them, and join the effort to protect all human life!
P.S. We can also show our support for life at the annual March for Life in D.C. taking place this Friday, January 27! We hope to see you there.
