Don Cherry's unceremonious and kneejerk removal from "Coach's Corner" on Rogers Sportnet's "Hockey Night in Canada" was unwarranted, insulting and defamed the legacy of one of Canada's greatest patriots.  It came on the heels of complaints over his use of the term "you people" when describing those who failed to buy poppies and support Remembrance Day.  "You people" is a well-used Don Cherry term that has always been employed in the sense of meaning "everybody" rather than the "immigrants" assumed by his unthinking complainants.

This petition seeks to right the wrong afforded to Mr. Cherry by Rogers Sportsnet by demanding the company's principals apologize to him fully and forthrightly for not taking the time to ascertain the intent of his words and the context in which they were delivered.  This petition needs your signature to bring this point home.

As for Mr. Cherry's complainants, it is now dawning on Canadians that their country is suffering through the unmentionable and unabated "march" of the "progressive left" through its traditions and institutions.  The "march" has now obviously arrived at the doorstep of one of Canada's most revered traditions - Remembrance Day.  Not only this, it's cohort of followers, both witting and unwitting, have managed to take down another institution in the form of a man who had the temerity to defend the act of honouring our fallen - Don Cherry.  They have done so to negate Mr. Cherry's opinions, as they have so many other conservative voices, and have shown themselves to be primed to hear what they want to hear rather than what is intended.  Their tradition is the "cancel culture" and it operates in direct opposition to Mr. Cherry's which stresses hard work, advancement through merit and free speech.

Several petitions have called for the reinstatement of Mr. Cherry with some garnering hundreds of thousands of signatures. The time for reinstatement, however, is gone as Rogers Sportsnet has hammered the final nail in the coffin of Coach’s Corner with Ron Maclean's confusing announcement on the evening of Saturday, 16 November, 2019.  Rather than reinstatement, it is time to call upon Rogers Sportsnet to apologize for their unfounded and irresponsible treatment of Don Cherry.  In doing so, Mr. Cherry will be vindicated and an unfair blemish will be removed from his legacy.  This, even as the virtue signallers, the “nattering nabobs of negation", those who  worship at the altar of victimhood and those who would see the nation divided on lines of clan and tribe, rather than united as a community of citizens enjoying common rights and freedoms, will be served notice.  Their game is up.  Please sign this petition and tell them so yourself.

Petition to: Joe Natalie - CEO Rogers Communications; Bart Yabsley - President Rogers Sportsnet

Dear Mr. Natalie and Yabsley,

I believe the recent decision by Rogers Sportsnet to dismiss Don Cherry and close down his "Coach's Corner" was misinformed and disparaged a great Canadian personality and patriot.  I also believe these actions need to be redressed by a full and forthright apology to Mr. Cherry that recognizes the company's culpability in failing to take the time to ascertain the intent and context associated with his "poppy"opinion piece on the 09 November, 2019 "Coach's Corner".

You may feel that the decision to dismiss Mr. Cherry was warranted given the number of complaints you received on the night in question.  Please consider, however, that firing Mr. Cherry for words that he himself has stated were intended to reference "everybody" rather than one identifiable group was both unfair and draconian.  Not only this, the decision has had the unintended consequence of abetting a "cancel culture" that now seeks to paint the institutions of Canadian hockey and "Hockey Night in Canada" with the brush of racism and bigotry.  How else to explain the assertion by certain personalities in the popular media that hockey players are "not very nice white boys" who are "bullies".

Your heartfelt apology to Mr. Cherry will not only right the wrong you so dismissively laid at his feet, it will also tell the "cancel culture" that hockey is not about race and exclusion.  It will say hockey is about hard work, advancement by merit and the right for one to express their opinions freely - as Mr. Cherry has always demonstrated by word and by deed.

Thanks for your consideration in this,
