The Cuban dictatorship is preventing a pro-life doctor from collecting his award - Sign now!
HazteOir—a sister organization to CitizenGO—has awarded a distinguished prize to Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet for his tireless work for the pro-life cause in Cuba. The prize will be presented in Madrid on Saturday, October 15th.
However, the Cuban authorities are refusing to allow Dr. Biscet to collect the prize.
Why? Do they want to silence his voice? Do they intend to silence all those who defend the right to life in Cuba?
This is the letter that Dr. Biscet sent to HazteOir regarding his inability to attend the awards (letter translated from Spanish):
I am happy to have been selected by your organization to receive this distinguished humanitarian award. Especially because the award reminds me of the many Spanish pro-lifers who work hard to achieve respect for the dignity of unborn human beings and legal protection by the State.
Similarly, many Spaniards raised their voices against my unjust imprisonment for activities in favor of life and the human rights of Cubans. This is the reason the current totalitarian regime in Cuba will not let me be with you to receive this distinguished award. In this case, I send my solidarity to you. And I would like to denounce the arbitrary acts of public opinion against me. In the near future, Cuba will be free and I will able to be with you.
Dr. Biscet was imprisoned for 11 years for fighting against the atrocious deaths of babies who survived the drug Rivanol, and for bringing to light the responsibility of the Communist Party for the death of so many innocent children.
Dr. Biscet would not abandon the women who remembered the cries of their children, while the doctors coldly told them that their sons and daughters were dead. They were not just dead, they had been killed!
When he discovered that the women’s complaints were true, Dr. Biscet denounced this injustice. No one else lifted a finger in the hospital. He raised his complaint, and he discovered the complicity of the Communist Party, but he did not flinch. He continued to fight for justice.
The price he paid for his claim was 11 years in prison in Cuba. He suffered torture and abuse while his wife and son suffered under the harsh repression of the Castro regime.
However, Dr. Biscet does not harbor hatred against the regime. Instead, he continues—through non-violent methods— to work towards a free Cuba that respects human rights, democracy, and freedom.
"We must change the Cuban regime by creating a love of truth, freedom, and human rights.”
Now, help us encourage the Cuban regime to allow Dr. Biscet to collect his award. We only have a few more days, but with your help, we may succeed! At the very least, we can make a strong statement against this sort of totalitarian repression.
