Recently, Apple pulled a pro-life prayer app from the Apple App Store.

The "Human Coalition" app, which is still available in the Google Play Store, gives users the opportunity to pray for someone searching for an abortion - that she might change her mind.

It is done in real time and anonymously, thereby, giving the app user the possibility of being involved in a powerful pro-life initiative with a simple swipe of the thumb.

It is innovative - something which people at Apple should admire.

And, through prayer, it is helping to reduce the number of abortions - also, something which people at Apple should admire. Or, at least that's what the media have been telling us for at least a decade, now: that, whether one is conservative or liberal, we all want to see fewer abortions.

Right?

Right. And, that's why it was surprising and unfortunate to see Apple's App Store pull this innovative, abortion-reducing (and, anonymous) app.

But, Human Coalition's Lauren Enriquez said of the app's removal from the App Store (in Human Coalition's blog):

"Apple notified us that they had removed the Human Coalition app from the App Store, citing violations of certain functionality requirements. However, Human Coalition spoke with Apple and demonstrated that not only were the cited requirements met, but that the Human Coalition app exceeded minimum requirements and functioned better than similar apps from other developers."

And, she then went on to add:

"Apple was unable or unwilling to identify a specific improvement that, if completed, would merit the Human Coalition app’s reinstatement in the App Store. Instead, the effect of Apple’s requirements for modifying the app before it could be re-submitted for consideration would be that Human Coalition would have to completely overhaul the app — a cost-prohibitive and unnecessary demand."

Of course, one doesn't want to jump to conclusions, but this situation could appear, to the average observer, to be tantamount to politically-motivated censorship.

However, we know (or, would like to think) that Apple would never attempt to stifle an innovative, abortion-reducing initiative...and, we know that Apple doesn't want the whiff of "censorship" hanging around its products and App Store - especially, as so much of Apple's revenue is generated by the sale of products to, and, the use of apps by, Christians, pro-lifers, and people interested in prayer.

With these things in mind, we, the undersigned, call on Apple to assist Human Coalition with a cost-efficient (or, free) fix for their app, so that it can be returned to the App Store as soon as possible.
