Dear Prime Minister, please urgently protect religious freedom
I write to you urgently right now as a fundamental human right emerges back into the spotlight.
I am talking about religious freedom which contributes to the very fabric of Australian society and its way of life.
It’s the pillar reason as to why approximately 200,000 people migrate to this free and tolerant country every year to enjoy Australian democracy -- a “fair go” for all -- and what is overall perceived as a just Western judicial system founded on and shaped by Christian principles.
But, leftist activists are coming for your rights.
Religious freedom deserves and warrants the utmost protection possible. Sadly it is increasingly under threat from hostile and regressive Leftists forces who seek to undermine the Christian values which shaped this country.
After the 2018 Ruddock committee heard from so many Christian groups who poured considerable time and resources into submissions and attending hearings, very little in the way of enhanced religious freedom protections resulted from the committee’s work.
The Morrison government then hit the pause button on progressing freedom of religion over the last year or so but it is promising to hear recent news reports that Attorney General Michaelia Cash has begun meeting with key stakeholders on this vital issue prior to the 2022 Federal Election
We now ask that the Parliament take this issue seriously and make it their number one priority.
In this relatively short period, we have watched with outrage and disbelief as Christian rugby player Israel Folau lost his job for expressing Biblical beliefs on social media, a wedding magazine forced to close, Christian schools dragged through the courts, Christian foster parents banned and other individuals from various walks of life, who have faced ongoing litigation for even daring to express a differing viewpoint.
All this, thanks to militant LGBT activists who despite their incessant propaganda, are anything but peaceful and tolerant.
What a tragedy.
This mess is not what our forefathers fought and died for in military conflicts over the years.
At the recent Perth USAsia Centre of “free world” leaders, Prime Minister Scott Morrison speaking in the context of a world that values freedom, a rules-based order and respect for human rights “over authoritarianism and autocracy” said “we can't be casual about these values and beliefs.”
“They are inextricably linked to our way of life in this country. We can't be passive about them. We can't expect others to advocate for us for them. We live them, we must speak up for them.”
These words from our Prime Minister are reassuring but we want to see palpable action, to not be passive but rather protect us from homegrown enemies on our own soil who would seek to vilify and persecute Bible-believing Christians.
