The Trudeau government is trying to censor the internet and put the social media feeds of Canadians in the hands of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

Trudeuau has successfully pushed Bill C-11 throguh the House of Commons, and now just needs the Senate to approve the bill.

The aim of Bill C-11 is to put online content under the same restrictions as television and radio content, so that, according to the bill itself, it can “serve the needs and interests of all Canadians, including Canadians from racialized communities and Canadians of diverse ethnocultural backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, abilities and disabilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and ages”.

But this language isn’t the only concern with Bill C-11. Though the bill claims to exempt social media posts from regulation, Section 4.2 (2) of the bill gives the CRTC the power to regulate social media posts if they “directly or indirectly generate revenue”. This would mean that the social media pages of most people and organizations with an online presence- including CitizenGO’s - could be controlled and hidden if the government feels it does not serve the needs of Canadians of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.

Bill C-11 opens the door for a level of internet censorship never before seen in this country. The groups that have the most to lose from this are those who are vocal against the Trudeau government’s pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia, and pro-gender ideology agenda.

It is unrealistic to believe that the Senate will toss out the entirety of Bill C-11. CitizenGO has proposed two major changes that could significantly lower Bill C-11's potential to censor ordinary Canadians.

By signing this petition, you are asking the heads of caucuses within the Senate to demand that:

  •  section 4.2 (2) of Bill C-11 be changed to only target those that directly generate revenue through their online presence
  • reject the woke language in the proposed amendment to subparagraph 3(1)(d)(iii) of the Broadcasting Act which states that the Canadian broadcasting system must “serve the needs and interests of all Canadians, including Canadians from racialized communities and Canadians of diverse ethnocultural backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, abilities and disabilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and ages”

Please stand for a free internet and sign this petition today to tell our Senators that you oppose Bill C-11! Canadian social media users should decide how our online content spreads, not regulatory agencies like the CRTC.

Petition to: Canadian Senators

Dear Canadian Senators,

I am opposed to the internet censorship proposed by Bill C-11, The Online Streaming Act.

Giving the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission control over any content that “directly or indirectly generates revenue” through section 4.2 (2) of Bill C-11 gives them far too much control over the media and messages Canadians consume online, and threatens to silence groups that speak out against the Trudeau government’s pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia, and pro-gender ideology agenda.

Additionally, amending subparagraph 3(1)(d)(iii) of the Broadcasting Act to include woke rhetoric like stating that the Canadian broadcasting system must “serve the needs and interests of all Canadians, including Canadians from racialized communities and Canadians of diverse ethnocultural backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, abilities and disabilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and ages” does nothing but imply the possibility of permitting content-based discrimination on controversial and politicially-charged topics.

These specific parts of Bill C-11 threaten to censor the messages made by regular Canadians on the internet. For this reason, I ask that you demand that section 4.2 (2) of Bill C-11 be changed to only target those that directly generate revenue through their online presence and that you reject the proposed amendment to subparagraph 3(1)(d)(iii) of the Broadcasting Act.
